I'm late!!!

I had to step out and I got away from the TV for a bit.   Let me catch you up :)

Best Costume - Elizabeth - Big old dresses pull off the win

Best Animated Feature (Best Cartoon movie) - Ratatouille - very funny and cute, well deserved win

Best Makeup - La Vie en Rose - French win a makeup award...whoopee

Best Art Direction - Sweeney Todd - lets face it, Tim Burton is good.

Best Visual Effects - The Compass - HOW DID TRANSFORMERS NOT WIN!!!  I hate this show

Best Supporting Actor - Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men - Deserved it from what I've heard no one else had a shot.

So there's the catchup, I again apologize.

9:31 - I just missed the best foreign short...anyone care?  And now they're doing a Bee Movie sketch...WHY WON'T THIS MOVIE DIE!!??

9:33 - Peter and the Wolf just won best animated short, and everyone that's accepted an award tonight has spoken with some sort of accent...Americans apparently are bad at movies.

9:38 - A rather large surprise in the Supporting Actress category...Tilda Swinton (White Witch in Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe) wins for Michael Clayton...too bad nobody saw the movie :)

9:41 - Allow me to take this commercial break to give you an overall feel for how things are going.  Jon Stewart is hosting and he's a great host.  Funny and sincere when he has to be.  This feels like an Oscars.  Crazy money went into it, lots of sweet duds, Jack Nicholson's drunk and the always dreaded post acceptance speech music that lets you know you're done.  That's my running tab for the nite.  So far the count is at one (Visual Effects went over...oops).  They're also having people sing their nominees for the best song Oscar.  Anything to make this thing run for 3 hours I guess.  Overall I've been pleased with how it's gone down.  The only fault...the presenters.  There was a time when it was The Rock followed by Jennifer Hudson...no star power anymore?

9:45 - Ha! they had Jessica Alba host the Technical Awards Show earlier on in the day...first girl any of those winners have seen in months :)

9:47 - Best Adapted Screenplay (Movie based on a book) - No Country for Old Men - That's two for NCfOM if you're keeping track at home.  Yes I'm abbreviating it, you try typing it every single time it's on the Oscars!

9:50 - They're showing us how they select the winners....you know, if they didn't show us this we could go to bed a whole half hour earlier!!

10:02 - Best Sound Editing and Mixing - Bourne Ultimatum -  Once again my movie (Transformers) gets screwed again.  Seriously, I'm pretty sure all Bourne did was drive around and smash things...waaitt...  This was two awards but I combined them since the same movie won both.  Best moment of the night so far though Seth Rogen and the guy from Knocked Up presented this award...hilarious.  The music claimed another 2 victims.  Apparently the sound guys don't know what a time limit is.  That's 3 if you're keeping track at home.

10:10 - Best Actress - Marion Cotillard, La Vie en Rose - Yeah I haven't heard of her or it either.  French movie about a french singer.  She cried through her whole speech, poor girl, I thought she was gonna pass out.  Just another movie no one's ever heard of winning an award.

10:19 - Another musical performance, don't worry you haven't heard of it so I'm not gonna talk about it.  What I do want to discuss is Colin Farrell.  Say what you want about him but man that dude has a sick Irish accent.  I'm insanely jealous.  He could look like a small troll with bad acne and all he'd have to do is open his mouth and people would flock to him.  Sheesh.

10:28 - Best Film Editing - Bourne Ultimatum - Makes sense, it was a heckuva a movie to try and cutdown plus plenty of camera angles to play with too.  This is three Oscars for Bourne Ultimatum...all technical awards.

10:32 - Now they're giving away honorary Oscars!!  This ceremony could seriously be 2 hours.  But nooo they gotta drag it out to 3 and a half hours.  The winner was Art Director Robert Boyle for those who care.  He's 98...did some Hitchcock flicks though so he's a winner in my book.

10:42 - Best Foreign Language Film - The Counterfeiters, Austria - Looked like a Holocaust flick.  One of those happy fuzzy ones.

10:44 - Last freaking song finally.  Three of the songs were from Enchanted (live action Disney movie).  Whoever came up with this idea should be shot....we need some Ludacris up there!!

10:49 - Best Original Song - Falling Slowly, some foreign movie - Great song.  Just a guitar and piano and great lyrics.  Well done.  Another Irishman too, nice.

10:59 - Best Cinematography - There Will Be Blood - Basically the best shot movie.  There's your winner.  Nice move by Jon Stewart, one of the winners from the Best Song didn't get to say thank you and he brought her out and gave her her time (that gives us another victim, 4).  Well played Stewart, well played.

11:01 - Ah yes, the always exciting "The actors that aren't with us" time.  Notable names: Moneypenny from the Bond movies, Suzanne Pleshette (old actress, you'd know her to see her), Heath Ledger (of course).

11:10 - Best Original Music Score - Atonement - I'm sure the music's great, just don't make me watch the movie.  I'm waiting for an American to win something, probably not gonna happen.

11:12 - Best Documentary Short Subject (I don't know what this is either) - Freeheld - I guess it was about a lesbian couple.  Heck if I knew.  Good part though was soldiers in Baghdad read off the nominees.

11:15 - Best Documentary - Taxi to the Darkside - I think this one was about the treatment of political prisoners by the US.  At least Michael Moore didn't win.  (The last two winners were American, I guess there goes my thoughts that Americans won't win).

11:23 - Best Screenplay - Juno - Never saw it but I heard it was really well done.  3rd American in a row since my statement...you know the Cleveland Indians never win a championship either....

11:30 - Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis, There Will Be Blood - Absolutely deserved this, he's a heckuva actor.  Well deserved.  Just waiting on Best Picture now...AND THEY GO TO A COMMERCIAL!!  Directing and Picture to come tomorrow around 3am...

11:42 - Best Director - Joel and Ethan Coen, NCfOM - Read up if you don't know what that means.  3rd NCfOM win tonight.  Only one for Michael Clayton so far.  Picture hopefully coming up before tomorrow (I'm tired).

11:45 - Best Picture - NCfOM - I think you can officially say this movie cleaned up.  At least people have seen this one :)  Thus ends a fun night with the Oscars.  I hope you enjoyed this, it may happen again :)

It's Friday night....

and I'm sitting in a radio station, running a Blue Jackets game.  Wow life is exciting right now.  I'm really not complaining...at least I'm working and not being bored :)

You know, it's winter in Ohio and it's funny how I keep forgetting how depressing this season is.  Don't get me wrong, it's not like I've been truly/clinically depressed.  Bored yes, depressed no.  But it's so hard to actually get me to do things based on the fact it always seems like it's mid 20's and overcast that I just can't help but want to stay indoors.  For example, during spring/summer/fall I can go outside, play tennis or golf, even if it's 50 and cloudy, it's at least workable.  I know many are in the same state I am, bored but looking for something to do during the dog days of winter (I can't name any names, it just sounds better for my post if I say people are looking for stuff to do).  So here goes, the Top 5 (that's right....back for a limited time only) Things You can do to Beat the Winter Blues.

5)  Do what I do....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING :)  (I don't recommend this)

4) See how long you can stay inside your house before you get cabin fever and blow up your microwave.

3) Pick up a book and read...then fall asleep after two pages.

2) Build a snowman...in your room!

1) Play the new game "Don't wear a coat anywhere and see how long before your sick!"

IT'S RANDOM THOUGHT TIME!!!

- My favorite PSA that our station plays is about housing discrimination where 5 stereotypical races call up to rent an apartment, only to have the white guy (aptly named Graham Wellington) actually get the apartment.  I laugh everytime I hear that PSA :)

- Romney's out already?!?  I can't in good conscience vote for McCain...though I may not have a choice :(

- I'm getting up at 7:30 tomorrow morning to go to an Irish Pub in Easton to watch English soccer....your commie comments can begin....now.

- I'm working at a thing called the Bitter Ball on Valentines Day...hilarity should ensue :)

- I ran the afternoon drive show for the first time yesterday...it was a blast :)

That is all :)

My job is so glamorous...

I don't mean to brag here, but through work I've been able to meet quite a few rather powerful people in the sports and entertainment world.  From Jim Tressel to Matt Kearney, from Colbie Callait to Grady Sizemore I have to say that this job has provided me the opportunity to meet some pretty popular people.  I've gotten to run broadcasts all over the state of Ohio, from Marietta to Toledo, from the field of the Horseshoe to Jacobs Field.

I say all that, to explain that the best is ahead of me starting tomorrow morning at 5am.  Friday morning is going to see me at a store called Filene's Basement serving doughnuts and coffee and little tins of mints to crazies.  What do I mean by crazies??  I mean brides to be.  You see, Filene's Basement is a bridal dress store that has a huge sale once a year that draws brides in waiting to their doors for great deals on dresses.  The doors open at 8:30 am though women have been known to start lining up the night before to be the first in line to start the mayhem that is a Filene's Basement rush.  Blood will be spilled and money will be spent in the name of love...Did I mention it's supposed to snow and freezing rain with 25 mph winds and temps in the mid 20's tomorrow morning?

That must be the ice cream AND the cherry on top you say...I mean, that's a full weekend right there.  Oh no my friends, it's actually just beginning.  Saturday morning/afternoon will see me travel to beautiful West Jefferson, OH (Wayne Countians think Rittman, Cedarvillians think Xenia, but smaller) for the grand opening of epic proportions.  No friends, it's not a Chucky Cheese; it's not even a Wal-mart!  I am speaking of the store above all stores....A FAMILY DOLLAR GENERAL!!  So while you're sitting at your job, wondering what it would be like to work in the world of radio and all the perks that come with it...just remember.  Crazy brides, and Family Dollar....goodnight everyone!!!

IT'S RANDOM THOUGHT TIME!!!

- I realized just how interesting the age of 23 is...last night I was flipping between the Republican Debates on CNN and The Emperor's New Groove on Disney....I hope this transition doesn't last too much longer.

- Speaking of not lasting too much longer LOST STARTS ANEW TONITE!!!

- I was sad to see Giuliani go....actually I wasn't, I HEART HUCKABEE!!

- I have been so bored the last 2 weeks, even my sister called me pathetic :(

- That last statement was pathetic :((

- Pats win big in the Superbowl....we win even bigger with Ryan Secrest hosting the pregame red carpet show.

- I think I'm going to be playing my guitar in public very soon....anyone want to come?

- Bad news, Paula Abdul will not be singing live during the pregame festivities of the Super Bowl...there goes the reason for watching.

- Poor Britney is back in the hospital...I had a dream last night that my family and I were her family she was living with to get away from the public....I have got to stop watching The E! channel 24/7 :(

- This has gotten long...

23....The Awkward Age

I had this discussion with Izzy just a little while ago, and I feel it needs to be discussed with everyone.

I was talking to a friend a while back that is 25 and he was saying that 23 is the worst age because you're too old to hang out with the college kids, but you're too young to be of "business age".  Listen to Blink's What's my Age Again? song and you'll understand what's going on (that is the first and only time I will even endorse Blink 182).

I'm not gonna lie, I've felt that basically this entire past year.  It's weird because I know I'm supposed to be a "grown up" by now and be older and more mature.  However, part of me still can't get past the fact that I'm still a kid at heart and I still enjoy being an idiot sometimes.  For example, I was at one of my show host's houses watching the NFL games this past weekend and I looked around the room and I realized that I'm sitting with two men in their mid 30's and a guy that's 25.  I felt so young and out of place.  Match that up with hanging out with some college students from OSU on Thursday that were amazed when I said I had to leave early because I had to work early and I'm gonna have to agree with my friend....23 is a really awkward age.  Either that or I have some maturing to do...

And now...to prove my kid side...IT'S RANDOM THOUGHT TIME!!!

- Fred Thompson stepped down today from the Republican Primary....maybe Huckabee will get some of his votes now...here's hoping (though I'm starting to lose my love of Huckabee...I don't like his illegal immigration track record).

- I was the first at my office to find out Heath Ledger died today....man was that a slap in the face...the guy was 28.

- College Basketball conference play is the best ever....it has swallowed my weeknites.

- To all those that I haven't talked to in a long time...I apologize.  I enter hibernation when it hits the winter...I think my ancestor was a bear.

- It never fails...if you even mention the word "football" on the radio, people will call wanting to talk about OSU football.  Yikes people in Cbus are crazy.

- Insert funny...yet thoughtful line here.

- I'm starting to realize I'm awesome at starting things...and not so good at ending them...

- Winter is starting to be a really reflective time for me....lets see if it turns into anything.

- GONZAGA AS NATL CHAMPS!
